Help Give a Child a Bed

For Missions & Outreach, we'd like to repurpose the donation box for the next 3 months, for a collection drive for Sleep In Heavenly Peace, the organization that builds bunk beds for children in needy families who would otherwise be on the floor or be squeezed in with others.

No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!

What's needed are sheets, blankets, comforters and

mattress covers for TWIN beds

that can then go along with the beds that are being built. Needs to be for twin beds!

At the end of each month we'll collect all items from the box and take them to Petersen's Carpet & Flooring which is one of the main donation sites.

In addition to sheets, blankets and mattress covers, you can donate online to the local chapter. Sleep In Heavenly Peace is 100% volunteer and donation driven; any contributions will go straight to buying materials and assembling beds!

Volunteer Opportunities with City Youth Matrix!

City Youth Matrix (CYM) is a local nonprofit that removes barriers so children can experience the wealth of enrichment opportunities that Frederick provides.

We guide our families through the process of selecting and registering for activities by helping them navigate the process from start to finish. We also provide help with activity fees and transportation to programs so families are empowered to access a diverse variety of extracurricular activities for their children.

City Youth Matrix is gearing up to add 18 new member families this January! This means more children placed in community enrichment programs and CYM activities and more parents empowered to help their families.

This means our need for new volunteers to make this happen - is one of our very highest priorities. Please help us by saying "yes" to volunteering and also by sharing these opportunities with your friends, family and colleagues.

Our most pressing needs are: Drivers, Interpreters, Family Liaisons, and Assistants at CYM events. PLEASE NOTE: Each of these 'jobs' take as little time as an hour or two. Just giving that little bit of time makes such a positive difference!

We Care for the Needs of Our Community

Grace Church faithfully supports a number of local missions, including the Food Bank and the Soup Kitchen at the Frederick Community Action Agency, the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs, and Heartly House.  Throughout the year, we collect nonperishable food items for the Food Bank, and our "Grace Groceries" are dedicated during the offering on the third Sunday of each month. Members of Grace Church also serve at the local Soup Kitchen.

The Alan P. Linton, Jr. Cold Weather Shelter (named after the grandson of Grace Church members Betty Linton and the late Jack Linton) has been a project which Grace Church has supported since its inception. Originally, the Shelter was housed in various churches in downtown Frederick (including ours). Members of Grace Church have historically participated as volunteers and have served on the Board.  Recently, a decision was made to keep the shelter open year-round as the Emergency Shelter Program (for adults only).  An Emergency Family Shelter began in October 2014 and is housed in Frederick area churches for one to two weeks at a time year-round.  Grace Church typically hosts the Family Shelter during the second full week of February, May, August and November.

New volunteers (18 and up) are always welcome - even if you are not a member of Grace!  A background check and a 2-hour training class is required for all who wish to volunteer at the Emergency Family Shelter.  Download a volunteer application here.  If you aren't able to volunteer, you can help out by donating snacks, games, books or children's movies, or by providing a dinner for our guests.  Please call the church office for more information.

Soup Kitchen

next service date:  TBD

Volunteers from Grace Church serve at the Soup Kitchen on the 3rd Sunday of even months. It's a rewarding mission experience and we always have fun. Won't you join us?

Contact Jerry Princler for more details or to sign up.

Or, you can go on your own...The Soup Kitchen is always in need of volunteers to staff the soup kitchen and serve food to homeless individuals and needy families. Volunteers are needed M-F, 5-7pm to serve prepared meals and then clean up. It is an enjoyable and rewarding volunteer activity that does not require any special skills. For more information, please contact Sarah McAleavy at 301-600-6263.

FCAA - Food Bank

On the third Sunday of every month, we dedicate the “Grace Groceries” that have been collected in our little red wagon (in the narthex), and then deliver them to the Frederick Foodbank. Thank you for your continued generosity!
